Today, I’m starting a new post series called “Living in The Island”. Every two weeks I will be writing something interesting about my country, Dominican Republic. I will be describing places, cool spots, beaches, restaurants, curiosities, everyday life situations, personal experiences and more. In fact, I will be sharing everything I consider valuable about this spectacular island located in the Caribbean Sea.
The Episode #1 is about a trip we (me and my wife) made last week. It was a fantastic trip because we discovered a new site for vacation. Here, is the story:
It was Sunday morning and, I was sitting at my computer desk. I had no plans. My email inbox was empty and, I had nothing entertaining to do. So all of a sudden, I changed my mind. I do not know why but I felt deep inside me that I wanted to do something different that day with my time and energies.
The first thing I did was to turn off my computer. After that, I approached my wife to induce her to support me in my quest. She also agreed to break the routine. Right way, we decided to take two days off in order to enjoy the beauty of the country. This morning we left home toward one of my favorite spot Samaná. It is a beautiful town located at the extreme northeast of the Dominican Republic. If you see a Dominican Republic map, you will notice a small bay on the north coast. Samaná is there along with another beautiful spot called Las Terrenas.
We started the journey to Samana at 11:00 AM and we arrived at 12:45 PM. One of the coolest things about living in Dominican Republic is that everything is near home. I live in Santo Domingo and, the journey from my city to Samaná took me one hour and forty five minutes by car. I usually run a little bit slowly. My average speed in highway was 60 miles per hour. So, fast and furious guys can do it faster.
Arriving at Samaná we decided to stay in a hotel called Bahia Principe Cayacoa. It is all-inclusive resort. There, you are allowed to eat and drink all you want just for one fee. From this place, we could appreciate a spectacular view of Samaná bay surrounded by immense natural beauty. The hotel cost was affordable compare to the other hotels I already stayed at. It is not a monumental building. I think it might have two hundred rooms. It was not crowded. Most of the people there were Canadian and Germans. We paid US$83.00 per night per person. All rooms were full equipped with the best features available to transform your stay in a dream. The food was delicious and, the service was excellent. The staff was well trained and proactive. For us, everything was perfect. Click here to check the view we had from our room.
As soon as we made the check-in process, we went for lunch. After that, we enjoyed the pool for the rest of the day. At night, we went to the hotel’s dance club. We were dancing Merengue and Salsa. At 11:00 PM, the music stopped so we went to see an after party late night show. At the beginning of the show, I was approached by one of the hotel staff member. She asked me if I wanted to perform in the hotel show. Obviously, I refused her proposal, but she insisted so much. I ended up accepting her request, so I paid an expensive price for this. I had to do a lot of embarrassing things like imitating Shakira in front of lot of people. I had to do hot, sexy movements on stage in order to win the night contest. I would like to forget that night. It was a nightmare for me.
The next day was more adventurous than the first one. In the morning, we were searching for something exciting. We found a scuba diving school which was offering a lot of different activities including one that grabbed my attention: Speed Boat sailing. We rented a speed boat at the hotel. We made an epic voyage sailing across Samana bay to Cayo Levantao island at extremely fast speed. We were sailing for two hours. That experience was unforgettable. The price was US$120. I think the result was not expensive for the experience we enjoyed. We had a lot of fun. When we finished sailing mini-boats we went back to the hotel. We went for lunch. We enjoyed several options on the menu then we went back home.
My recommendation for you is that if you want to enjoy an adventurous day you should visit Samaná and Las Terrrenas in Dominican Republic. There are beautiful beaches, great food, pleasant weather and comfortable accommodation options at the best price.
I hope you enjoyed this post! And if you did, please feel free to share it!
Cheers, and all the best
